Prepare the Way of the Lord — Make Room for Jesus.

December 7, 2025

Prepare the Way of the Lord — Make Room for Jesus.

Brothers and sisters in Christ,
Today, the Church continues her Advent journey with a strong and urgent message: Prepare!
Advent is not just a countdown to Christmas; it is a spiritual wake-up call.

In the readings today, we hear the powerful voice of John the Baptist crying out in the desert:

“Prepare the way of the Lord!
Make His paths straight!”
Matthew 3:3

John does not whisper this. He cries out with passion. He is God’s megaphone telling the world:
Don’t live on autopilot. Wake up. God is coming near.

1. John the Baptist: A Voice in the Wilderness

John appears in the desert, far from the comfort of the cities. His lifestyle is simple, his message clear:

Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

Why the desert?
Because deserts are places where distractions disappear.
John invites us to enter the inner desert — to quiet the noise, examine our hearts, and confront our sins.

Everyone wants Jesus the Savior,
but John reminds us: there is no true Christmas without conversion.

2. What Does It Mean to “Prepare the Way”?

Preparing the way of the Lord involves three things:

(a) Remove the obstacles

We all have “mountains” and “valleys” that block God from entering our hearts:

  • Pride
  • Anger
  • Unforgiveness
  • Secret sins
  • Laziness in prayer
  • Broken relationships

This season calls us to remove those obstacles.

(b) Straighten what is crooked

Crooked paths are:

  • dishonest behavior
  • compromise
  • double life
  • immoral habits

Advent calls us to straighten the crooked paths and walk in integrity.

(c) Make room for Jesus

Our hearts can be so full — full of worries, noise, social media, work, and entertainment — that there is no space left for God.

Advent asks:
If Jesus came today, would He find room in your life?

3. Isaiah’s Vision: A World Filled With Peace

In the first reading, Isaiah describes a beautiful future:

  • the wolf lives peacefully with the lamb
  • children play safely
  • justice fills the earth
  • the Spirit of God rests on the Messiah

This is the world Jesus wants to bring —
but it begins with us.

True peace starts in the heart.
So Advent is a time to let Jesus restore peace:

  • in your family
  • in your marriage
  • in your workplace
  • in your soul

4. St. Paul’s Message: Live in Harmony

Paul tells us:

“May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to think in harmony with one another.”
Romans 15:5

Advent challenges us to:

  • reconcile with someone
  • forgive someone
  • speak kindly
  • stop complaining
  • encourage others

This is how we “prepare the way” for Jesus in our community.

5. Practical Ways to Prepare This Week

Here are simple but powerful Advent actions:

✔ Go to confession

Nothing prepares the soul like repentance.

✔ Reduce noise

Spend time in silence each day for prayer.

✔ Read Scripture daily

Especially Isaiah and the Gospels.

✔ Do an act of generosity

Help someone who cannot repay you.

✔ Reconcile with someone you have tension with

A humble step opens the way for God.

Conclusion: Prepare Your Heart

Dear friends,
John the Baptist stands before us today pointing us toward Christ. His message is not outdated — it is urgent.

Prepare! Repent! Make straight the way!
Not tomorrow.
Not next week.
But now.

As we continue this Advent season, may our hearts become a manger ready to receive Jesus with joy, peace, and love.

Amen.
