Listen to Him.
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
Last Sunday, we followed Jesus into the desert where He was tempted.
Today, the Church takes us up a high mountain where Jesus is transfigured.
Lent always has these two movements:
- The desert of struggle
- The mountain of glory
God strengthens us with light before we face the Cross.
1. The Transfiguration: A Glimpse of Glory
On the mountain, Jesus’ face shines like the sun, and His clothes become dazzling white.
For a moment, the disciples see who Jesus truly is — not only a teacher or miracle worker, but the glorious Son of God.
Moses and Elijah appear:
- Moses represents the Law
- Elijah represents the Prophets
This shows that Jesus fulfills all of Scripture.
👉 The Transfiguration reveals that suffering is not the end. Glory awaits.
2. Peter Wants to Stay
Peter says:
“Lord, it is good that we are here. Let us make three tents.”
He wants to remain in that beautiful moment.
We understand him.
We all want moments of peace, joy, and spiritual clarity to last forever.
But Jesus leads them back down the mountain.
Why?
Because faith is not about escaping life.
It is about facing life with confidence in God.
3. The Father’s Voice
Then a cloud overshadows them, and they hear the voice of the Father:
“This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to Him.”
These words are the heart of today’s message.
During Lent, the Church invites us to:
- listen more
- pray more
- quiet our hearts
👉 Conversion begins with listening.
4. The Mountain and the Cross
The Transfiguration prepares the disciples for the scandal of the Cross.
Soon they will see Jesus:
- rejected
- suffering
- crucified
This moment of glory strengthens them so they will not lose faith.
Lent works the same way for us.
God gives us grace now, so that when we face trials, we remember:
👉 The Cross leads to Resurrection.
5. Our Lenten Journey
This Sunday asks us:
- Are we listening to Jesus?
- Do we trust Him even when we must come down from the mountain?
- Do we believe that suffering can lead to transformation?
Lent is a journey from darkness to light, from fear to faith.
Conclusion
Dear friends,
The Second Sunday of Lent reminds us that Jesus is truly the beloved Son of God.
May we:
- listen to Him
- trust Him
- follow Him
through the desert, up the mountain, and all the way to Easter glory.
Amen.
