If You Love Me, Keep My Commandments.
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
As we continue our Easter journey, today’s Gospel reminds us that the Resurrection is not only something to celebrate — it is a new way of living.
Jesus says:
“If you love me, you will keep my commandments.”
These words reveal an important truth:
👉 Christianity is not just about knowing Jesus.
👉 It is about loving Him and living according to His teachings.
1. Love Is More Than Words
Many people say they love God.
But Jesus connects love with obedience.
True love is shown in action.
For example:
- parents show love through sacrifice
- friends show love through loyalty
- Christians show love through faithful living
Jesus teaches that love is not merely emotional; it is practical and visible.
2. The Gift of the Holy Spirit
Jesus promises:
“I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate to be with you always.”
This Advocate is the Holy Spirit.
The disciples were afraid that Jesus was leaving them alone. But Jesus assures them that they will never be abandoned.
The Holy Spirit:
- strengthens us
- guides us
- comforts us
- teaches us truth
👉 We do not live the Christian life by our strength alone.
3. “I Will Not Leave You Orphans”
These are comforting words.
Many people today feel alone:
- emotionally isolated
- spiritually empty
- uncertain about life
But Jesus says:
“I will not leave you orphans.”
Christ remains with us:
- through the Holy Spirit
- through the Eucharist
- through the Church
- through His Word
We are never abandoned.
4. The Presence of Christ
Jesus says:
“Whoever loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and reveal myself to him.”
The more we love Christ and follow Him, the more deeply we experience His presence.
Sometimes we ask:
👉 “Why do I not feel close to God?”
Today’s Gospel reminds us that closeness to God grows through:
- prayer
- obedience
- faithfulness
- love
5. Living Easter Faith
The Easter season is not only about remembering the Resurrection. It is about allowing the risen Christ to transform our lives.
This Sunday asks us:
- Do I truly love Christ?
- Does my life reflect His commandments?
- Am I open to the guidance of the Holy Spirit?
Conclusion
Dear friends,
Jesus gives us two great gifts today:
- His commandments rooted in love
- The Holy Spirit who helps us live them
May we remain faithful to Christ, trust in the presence of the Holy Spirit, and live as true witnesses of the Resurrection.
And may our lives proclaim:
that Christ is alive and working within us.
Amen.
